Infertility Treatments
Couples trying to conceive for more than a year or women older than 35years of age trying to conceive for more than 6 months should undergo basic tests for infertility.
According to the results a number of infertility treatments might be indicated. Some patients might benefit from simple methods such as cycle monitoring. For others intrauterine insemination or in vitro fertilization might be indicated. Others might benefit from more sophisticated treatments such as pre-implantation genetic screening or diagnosis.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
When other, simpler methods of assisted reproduction cannot provide solutions or have failed, in vitro fertilization (IVF) is the definite choice of treatment.
In Vitro fertilization is indicated when woman’s tubes are blocked or damaged. It is also indicated in cases of severe endometriosis, in unexplained infertility when previous treatment with IUI has failed. In anovulation or PCOS when IUI has failed. In vitro fertilization is indicated in older women or in woman that are in need of oocyte donation. In cases that need PGS or PGD. In cases of male infertility with severe oligo or astheno or terato- spermia.
ICSI (Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is a type of IVF with micro-fertilization. It is indicated in cases of male infertility and may be combined with TESE or FNA (Testicular Sperm Extraction - Fine Needle Aspiration).
